OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Keep an eye on your folding money.

First Alert 6 recently came in contact with a fake $100 bill that might cause someone to do a double-take, but only if they’re paying close attention.

The fake money has similar markings to a modern $100 bill, but features President Trump’s likenesses and “In Trump We Trust” printed on the front and back of the paper. The bad bill also has Trump’s signature and “RE-ELECT TRUMP IN 2024″ on the front.

The novelty bill doesn’t quite have the same feel as real money — but it’s close. It’s about the right size and shape, too.

Social media posts have been circulating with photos of fake Trump money, one including a photo of a gold-colored $5,000 bill. While U.S. currency has no such denomination, the fake bill in the image also has similar modern money markings and Trump phrases as the counterfeit $100.

Making or using counterfeit money is a serious crime. Earlier this month, a 28-year-old man in Chicago was sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison for manufacturing about $92,000 in fake $100 bills. Authorities said he tried to use the bills to make purchases at local businesses, recruiting woman and even girls as young as 16 years old to assist with the purchases.

Local authorities confirmed to First Alert 6 that they hadn’t had any reports of anyone trying to use the bills as currency around the Omaha area.

If you do come across a counterfeit bill, contact police or the U.S. Secret Service Omaha field office.
