The City of Gretna proposed plans for annexation of Papillion Friday. Behind closed doors Tuesday, Papillion City Council discussed possible legal action for more than an hour.

"I don't any benefit of us being in the city limits. We're so far out. But I don't see us having many benefits maybe other than the library card,” said Vala's Pumpkin Patch owner Tim Vala.

It's a plan some residents and the City of Papillion are against.

The City of Gretna posted plans to annex land, which would include Vala's Pumpkin Patch.

Gretna leaders said the plan would allow them to “maintain control of two gateway community entrances.”

Entrances, they say, that have significant development and economic growth. It would double the area of Gretna.

Papillion City Council went into closed session to discuss litigation.

For Tim Vala it could mean increased property tax which might mean higher prices when your family visits the Pumpkin Patch.

"I'd probably come together with other land owners and hire a lawyer if we were to do something, but it's way too early to say we're going to do this or that,” said Vala.

In reading through the plan, Gretna would boost population by nearly 3,000 people. Some of them would actually see their taxes go down.
