Today in History - March 10: Celebrated Nebraska author Mari Sandoz passes away

NEW YORK (WOWT) - On this day in 1966, acclaimed author and Nebraska native Mari Sandoz died after battling cancer.

Sandoz received many awards for her work.

She was one of the country’s leading regional historians, best known for her depiction of life on the Great Plains.

Her greatest achievement is a series of six related books: The Beaver Men, Crazy Horse, Cheyenne Autumn, The Buffalo Hunters, The Cattlemen and Old Jules.
