OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - For six weeks, you have the chance to dump unlimited yard waste for next to no cost. The yard waste season in Omaha kicks off on Monday.

The season runs October 27th through December 5th. During this time, leaves, branches, and other plant materials that can not fit in your black lid trash cans can be collected with no extra fee.

Unlike most of the year, a yard waste sticker is not needed for paper bags and bundles of brush outside the can.

People in the Dundee neighborhood tell First Alert 6, seeing the area embrace the program is a good sight.

“Our property is really gifted with a 150 year old tree but a 150 year old tree makes about 30 bags of yard waste,” said Dundee resident Joachim Voss.

“So I am very excited that we have this opportunity to get rid of this yard waste the right way and not through the trash can out into the community and into the composting cycle.”

A complete list of what yard waste items will/will not be accepted along with a map, and the location of a self haul site can be found here.
