Iowa family’s antique car collection set for auction
GREENFIELD, Iowa — A family-owned antique car collection in Greenfield is heading to auction, offering over 30 classic vehicles, including rare models like a 1918 Detroit Electric and a 1963 split-window Corvette.
“It’ll be a hard day when they’re gone,” Debbie Boyer said of the Schildberg Collection.
As KCCI reports, Boyer and her family decided to put the collection up for auction — a decision they knew would eventually be made. The cars were collected by her late parents, including her father, who was a Chevrolet dealer. Among the highlights are classic red, white and blue Corvettes from the 1950s, with the dark blue 1963 split-window coupe standing out as the centerpiece.
“The auctioneer has said she’s heard from people all over the world that they’ve been really interested in that one,” Boyer said.
The collection also includes a 1902 Oldsmobile and a 1942 Lincoln Continental, which Boyer described as “the ultimate luxury car just before World War II.”
“It is in spectacular condition. The inside is pristine, and there’s so much gold detail. It’s just a really, really regal car,” Boyer said.
Boyer explained that the decision to auction the cars was driven by the desire to share them with others.
“It was just time. And they are meant to be shared and enjoyed, and we’re just not able to do that. Life gets busy, so it’s time that they find new homes and get to be back on the road and enjoyed by other collectors,” Boyer said.
The auction, scheduled for June 13, will include pristine 1950s Corvette convertibles and other rare vehicles with no reserve, ensuring all cars will be sold.
