Infant formula recalled after testing finds toxins linked to foodborne illness

(CNN) — Tens of thousands of tins of infant formula have been recalled after testing found a toxin linked to foodborne illness.

The a2 Milk Company said its a2 Platinum Premium Infant Formula may contain cereulide, which is produced by some strains of bacteria.

Health officials warned that preparing the formula with hot water will not remove the toxin.

Symptoms can start within hours. They include nausea and vomiting, but usually resolve within a day.

The formula was sold nationwide on the company’s website and at select retailers, including Amazon and Meijer.

The use-by dates for the recalled batches are:

• July 15, 2026
• Jan. 15, 2027
• Jan. 21, 2027

The recall affects 31.7-ounce tins.

So far, no illnesses have been reported.

You should stop using the formula immediately and either throw it out or return it to the store for a refund.
