LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The Lancaster County Super Fair is still a few months away, but fair officials are already focused on sharing what’s going to be new this summer.

The Lancaster County Agriculture Society and those in charge of Sandhills Global Event Center are continually working to enhance the fair experience. “For the Ag Society, it’s our biggest event,” Lancaster County Agriculture Society President Kendra Ronnau said.

One of the most significant changes will be the addition of air conditioning to many of the buildings. The 4-H static event area, some trade show space and the animal buildings will be interconnected and air conditioned.

Some changes and upgrades can be also be expected when it comes to parking and the carnival layout.

“The fence that’s been around the carnival the last several years, we’ve expanded that to the creek line around the property,” Sandhills Global Event Center Managing Director Ron Bohaty said. “We’ll be able to encompass the carnival that has expanded out to a separate parking lot. It will have a 12 and under area. This year, we’ve created an area that full-time will be separate from the large carnival with the smaller kids rides in it. By doing that, we are able to add a couple more rides.”

Favorite vendors and shows will remain, but new shows will be added. “One of the things I’m really looking forward to this year is we’ve got a lumberjack coming that I think is going to be a great show,” Ronnau said. RibFest is also returning as a three-day event.

The fair is returning to free parking this year. “That’s to help keep the traffic flowing into the parking lots as quickly as possible and keep the lines off the road,” Bohaty said. “Then we’re going to have admission booths that are along the way where that perimeter fence is.”

Admission will be $5 this year. Buy one-get one coupons will be offered through local sponsors. “That way a family of four can still get in for 10 dollars,” Bohaty said. Attendees coming to a motorsports event can get $5 off their motorsports ticket, which also provides admission to the Super Fair.

The goal is to make the fair accessible to everyone. “The 4-H community, FFA community is why we’re here,” Bohaty said. “It’s important to build a facility for them that they can be proud of, that they want to tell their friends about and keep that 4-H momentum for families in the future.”

“It’s important to the Ag Society to let people know we try really hard to have something for everybody,” Ronnau said. “Every age and genre. We try very hard to have something for different cultures. That’s important to us.”

The improvements will benefit hundreds of other events happening year-round at Sandhills Global Event Center. “We have a lot of staff that are just really proud of their job and being part of this,” Bohaty said.
