OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Police say one person was sent to the hospital after a motorcycle crash in South Omaha Sunday afternoon.

Omaha Police tell First Alert 6 the crash happened near 42nd and J streets just after 3:30 p.m.

OPD says a “Grom”-type motorcycle was traveling south when a 2017 Toyota heading north with the intention of turning west failed to yield.

The motorcycle hit the rear of the Toyota. The driver was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, according to OPD.

A family witnessed the crash right outside of their home Sunday afternoon.

“His helmet and everything flew off. I thought he was… I didn’t see him moving. It was pretty scary,” said witness Laurie Halverson.

Charges are pending against the SUV driver.

“She turned right in front of him and he flipped over the motorcycle. He was really high up, like higher than the car, and then he hit the cement face-first down,” Halverson said.

Halverson told First Alert 6 she and her family rushed outside to help, directing traffic until first responders arrived.

“Everybody went running down to help him,” she said. “And I saw his leg was moving… his leg was moving like he was in a lot of pain.”
