Things to do: Activities and events in the Omaha metro, July 11-13
Outdoor screening of ‘Wicked’ postponed
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Here’s a list of activities and events coming up in the Omaha metro this weekend.
Wicked fans, you’re in luck. There will be a showing of “Wicked” on the big screen at Turner Park in Midtown on Friday. The movie is free and open to the public, with the park opening at 5 p.m. and the show starting at dusk. Blankets, lawn chairs, and leashed pets are welcome at the event. Movie-goers are encouraged to try out the dining options in Midtown or bring it to the park for a picnic. UPDATE: Organizers said Friday afternoon that this event has been postponed due to weather and lawn conditions. They expect to announce a new date for the screening “soon.”
On Saturday, there will be a Veteran Suicide Awareness Benefit Concert at GI Forum at 2002 N Street. The event will go from 1-8 p.m. Participants are asked to bring lawn chairs. Burgers, brats, libations, and soda will be available for purchase. Bands include: the Fight Dirties, Jorge Nilla, Joe Cabral and his All-Star Band, Monkey Funk, Fortitude Rangers, Connor Dowling, and the Bubba Hoteps.
Omaha’s main pride events are happening on Saturday. Head over to the Omaha Pride Parade from 9:30 a.m. until noon Saturday in the Capitol District. Directly after the parade, the party will move to the CHI Health Center for a festival. Heartland Pride will also have a Youth Pride event celebrating and empowering LGBTQ+ youth in the community and “fostering an inclusive future.” The kid-friendly event is set for 5-10 p.m. Saturday at CHI Health Center.
