OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Early voting ballot applications for the upcoming 2024 Presidential Election were sent Tuesday, an announcement said.

The Douglas County Election Commission said in their announcement that ballot applications have been mailed to approximately 160,000 voters that signed up to be on the Douglas County Early Voting Request List.

Prospective voters must fill out the application portion of the mailing and return it to the Election Commission to receive a ballot by mail, the announcement said.

The application also includes the newly required voter ID information as this upcoming election is the second in Nebraska to require voter ID. Voters must provide their Nebraska state driver’s license or state ID number on the application, or enclose a copy of any other valid photo ID. More information is included on the mail piece and is available at the Nebraska Government website.

“Voters on the Early Voting Request List should expect to receive their cards within 7 to 10 days,” Douglas County Election Commissioner Brian W. Kruse said. “Using the card provided assists my office in processing applications for by-mail ballots more efficiently, and we appreciate voters using the card and returning it to a ballot drop box when possible.”

All DCEC ballot drop boxes opened on Tuesday. A list of locations is available on the DCEC website. Drop boxes are open 24/7, even when the host building or business is closed. The final day to submit a request is October 25 at 6 p.m.

Any voter who did not receive a ballot application or wishes to have one sent to them may request a ballot in writing, accompanied by a signature. At that time, they may request to be put on the Early Voting Request List for future elections. Details may be found at the DCEC website or at 402-444-8683. Ballot requests are not accepted via telephone.
