Voter Turnout Up in South Omaha

Voter participation in South Omaha’s Ward 4 for the 2014 Midterm Elections had a net increase of 26 percent compared to the 2010 Midterm Elections.

Latinos turned out to vote in greater proportion as a result of the Heartland Workers Center’s (HWC) efforts over the last ten months to organize voters in South Omaha, along with ballot initiatives to increase the state’s minimum wage and improve schools across Omaha.

In the 2010 Midterm Elections, 6,464 voters in South Omaha voted in the Nebraska governor’s race, while in 2014, 8,147 voters turned out for the same race – a difference of 26 percent.
