According to Omaha Police, Carl Fender Jr has been cited for misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide in the death of Christopher Reger, 45, died shortly after an accident on Monday January 19, 2015.
Omaha Accident Investigators charged Fender, who is 80 years old, after consulting with the Douglas County Attorney's Office.
The accident happened at 132nd and I streets Monday afternoon.
Traffic in the area was shut down while police investigated on 132nd from F to L street.
Police said the motorcyclist was headed northbound on 132nd, and the other vehicle involved was going southbound.
Police say Carl Fender Jr., turned in front of the motorcycle and the cyclist took evasive action, sustaining life-threatening injuries.
Fender Jr. was not injured.
The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. Alcohol and excessive speed are not considered factors in this crash.
The news of Reger's death hits the local motorcycle community hard. His death is the third in the last four days.
"Shocking, to be three of them already, first of the year. Just shocking," said Joe Nielsen, Dillion Brothers Harley-Davidson.
Nielsen said one thing cannot be said enough when it comes to sharing the road: "Both motorcyclists and people in cars, just be aware, look around."
He also encourages motorcyclists to wear bright, reflective clothing so they catch drivers' eyes more easily.
