OMAHA, Neb. (Roncalli HS Press Release) - The Roncalli High School culinary team of Rosa Brown, Toni Harrold and Claire Mucha earned the Best of Pork Award to win the Nebraska State Championship and a trip to the National Pro Start Competition in Grapevine, Texas April 29th - May 1st.
This is the first time since 2010 that a Roncalli culinary team has qualified for the national competition.
This past weekend, 11 culinary teams from eight Nebraska schools had 60 minutes to prepare a three-course meal, demonstrating both their creativity and culinary skills, using only two burners, no electrical appliances and only ice for refrigeration.
Teams were observed and rated by judges from Nebraska and Colorado culinary colleges and universities as well as local chefs and restaurateurs.
Teams had to score exceptional in various categories, including knife skills, cooking procedures, safety and sanitation, professionalism, product taste and presentation.
The management team of Brown, Mucha and Josh Lampe took second place for their restaurant concept presentation.
