Plans are underway to build a lasting memorial to Elizabeth Collins and Lyric Cook-Morrissey, the two Iowa cousins who disappeared last summer and were found dead five months later.
A fundraising concert was held Saturday night held to redevelop the area where the girls were last seen. It's already been renamed Angels Park, but Elizabeth's mother says there's still plenty of work to do.
“Right now a lot of people consider that a dark, dark place, so just for it to be lightened up and just to make that park in honor of all of the kids that have lost their lives,” said Heather Collins.
The concert was also a chance for the Collins family to thank all the people who helped look for Lyric and Elizabeth. The family will hold a public burial for Elizabeth on May 4th.
Lyric was 10 and Elizabeth 8 when they were apparently abducted July 13th while bike riding near Meyers Lake in Evansdale, about 90 miles northeast of Des Moines. Their bodies were found December 5th in the Seven Bridges Wildlife Area, about 25 miles away from where they were last seen. The case remains unsolved.
