Murder Victim Identified, Second Shooting Victim Dies

Omaha police say a suspicious death Friday night is now being investigated as a homicide. Meanwhile, a second man shot three hours later died on Sunday.

The body of 50-year-old James Asmus of Omaha was found in a detached garage near a home at 48th and I streets around 7 p.m. Police say Asmus did not live at that address.

Just before 10 p.m. Friday, occupants of an SUV flagged down OFD medics at the 25th and L Street fire station. One of those inside the vehicle had been wounded by gunfire at 32nd and J streets.

The injured man, 21-year-old Alonso Hurtado of Omaha, was covered in blood and glass. He was hospitalized in critical condition and died Sunday morning.
