Collapsed Rail Bridge Under Repair After Close Call

Train traffic through northwestern Iowa was being detoured in the aftermath of a railroad bridge collapse near Little Sioux.

Union Pacific says the bridge collapsed about a half hour after a train went over it Wednesday. Repairs are under way.

Officials say that high water levels from recent rains likely compromised the center pier of the span resulting in the collapse.

Union Pacific usually runs eight trains through there a day from Council Bluffs to Sioux City.
