Woman Wounded In Shooting

An Omaha woman was critically wounded in a shooting Sunday morning.

Police were called to 25th and Ames Avenue for a report of shots fired in the area around 12:45 a.m. Officers found a white Buick with bullet holes in the windows. A woman inside the car was suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Twenty-six-year-old LaSharee Matten was rushed to Creighton University Medical Center in critical condition. Police say her wounds did not appear to be life threatening.

Detectives found the actual scene of the shooting was just one block away near 26th and Meredith Street. Investigators say Matten was parked in the car on Meredith Street and was talking with some other people when shots were fired. She reportedly fled the area, but was struck by the gunfire.

“We had some kids running in the area so there's a possibility they were running just because of all the people in the area or they were involved,” said Omaha Police Sgt. William Sibert. “At that point, nobody got caught on foot over there."
