A 24-year old McCook man took his own life following a chase involving the Nebraska State Patrol.

A trooper attempted to stop an SUV for speeding at the Highway 6/34 junction near Culbertson in Hitchcock County just before 11 p.m. Sunday. The driver refused to pull over and a pursuit ensued.

The chase lasted about 18 minutes going through back roads in and around Culbertson. It ended near the intersection of Colorado and Warsaw streets in Culbertson when the suspect stopped the vehicle, got out and ran.

The search took troopers and deputies to a camper near Wyoming and Railroad streets in Culbertson just before 1 a.m. Monday. Inside, they found the body of Cody Lienemann with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. A .22 caliber handgun was recovered.

Nebraska law requires a grand jury be convened anytime someone dies while in custody or in the process of apprehension.
