The man accused in a fatal crash that left one person dead and another injured was arraigned Wednesday morning.
Justin Ayers, 35, allegedly caused the accident Sunday afternoon near 75th and Maple and fled the scene. A witness was able to follow him and block him in until police arrived.
In court Wednesday, WOWT News learned that Ayers was an employee at Miller Electric and has lived in Omaha for eight years. Ayers has several prior convictions in Florida, including fraud, controlled substance and DUI. His bond was set at $250,000 and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for April 20th.
Kathleen Benes, 63, died at the scene of the accident. Teresa Schultz, 37, was hospitalized with a possible leg fracture.
Ayers is facing multiple charges, including motor vehicle homicide. His blood-alcohol level was .156.
