The Omaha hockey team opens its home schedule this weekend when it hosts No. 2/3 Notre Dame of the Big Ten on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 19-20. Friday’s game begins at 6:38 p.m., and Saturday’s game starts at 7:07 p.m. from Baxter Arena.
Omaha is 0-1-1 overall following a tie and a loss at Union in its season-opening series last weekend in Schenectady, N.Y. All time, UNO is 11-19-4 against the Fighting Irish including a mark of 5-8-2 in Omaha. Last season, the Mavericks split a two-game series with Notre Dame in South Bend in October.
Notre Dame, last year’s NCAA runner up, is 1-0-1 this season after winning the Icebreaker championship last weekend in Erie, Pa. The Fighting Irish tied Mercyhurst before beating the Lakers in a shootout to advance to the championship where they stopped Providence College. Last season, the Irish were a remarkable 11-2-1 on the road.
