OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) -- The basketball game between Omaha North and Omaha Benson scheduled for Friday night has been postponed.
An Omaha Police gang-unit lieutenant told 6 News that rumors of a fight had been circulating among students, but that OPD had been unable to confirm a fight or any other confrontation was going to take place.
It wasn't made clear where the rumors came from or whom they may involve.
Both schools posted on Twitter informing students and spectators that the game is off.
Obtained by 6 News on Friday night, OPS issued the following note to parents:
Dear North High and Benson High Families and Staff:
We wanted to make you aware that out of an abundance of caution, the Omaha North vs Omaha Benson basketball game scheduled for this evening has been postponed. We are working to reschedule the game.
Late this afternoon, our staff were made aware of concerning social media comments. We immediately contacted our partners in local law enforcement so we could investigate.
This message is being shared to ensure open communication with our staff and families. Please be assured that the safety of students and staff is our top priority. We appreciate your continued help in guiding our students in the use of good judgment in their actions for their safety and the safety of others.
