Nebraska Gymnastics Coach Retires

Nebraska athletic director Bill Moos says longtime women's gymnastics coach Dan Kendig decided to retire after the two discussed possible NCAA compliance issues in the program.

Moos said the decision was not tied to any issue involving student-athlete welfare. Kendig didn't return phone or text messages Tuesday.

Kendig coached the Cornhuskers for 25 seasons and led them to 14 conference titles and 12 NCAA Super Six Finals.

Moos said possible rules violations had been brought to his attention and he approached Kendig about it. Moos declined to disclose the nature of the possible violations.

Assistant coach Heather Brink will be interim head coach this season, which starts in January.
