The New York Giants have hired Mike Dawson and Henry Baker as assistant coaches for the defense. Dawson will be the outside linebackers coach, while Baker will be the team's assistant defensive backs coach.

Dawson replaces Rob Leonard, who left to become the Miami Dolphins' linebackers coach. Dawson spent the previous three seasons as a defensive line coach under Scott Frost at Central Florida and Nebraska.

Dawson was on the Eagles' coaching staff from 2013-15, the three seasons Giants coach Pat Shurmur was Philadelphia's offensive coordinator. Dawson also coached at Boston College, Akron and New Hampshire. He was a three-year starter at linebacker and defensive end at UMass.

The following statement from Head Coach Scott Frost is regarding Mike Dawson being hired to the New York Giants coaching staff on Monday:

“Coach Dawson informed me late last week he had chosen to accept a coaching position with the New York Giants. Mike has been a key part of our staff the past three seasons at Nebraska and UCF. He is a man of great character, an outstanding teacher, relates well to players and is a tremendous asset for any coaching staff.

“When you are fortunate to have outstanding coaches on your staff, they are going to have other opportunities in this profession. We will miss Coach Dawson, but wish him and his family the best as he takes the next step in his career with the Giants.”
