NBA Veteran and Champion, Bruce Bowen, was the featured speaker at this year’s Boys Town Booster Banquet. Bowen is a three-time NBA Champion and eight-time NBA All-Defensive Team selection who made a name for himself with his ability to stop the league’s best scorers. Former San Antonio Spurs forward excelled in the league for 13 years, ranking 6th on the Spurs’ all-time list for 3-point field goals made and is just the 4th Spur to earn All-Defensive honors three or more times, joining David Robinson, Tim Duncan and Alvin Robertson.
The Booster Banquet, which benefits and honors Boys Town student athletes was held on April 30, 2019 at the Embassy Suites Windsor Ballroom, 12520 Westport Parkway, La Vista. The Boys Town Boosters were formed to help ensure that any child who wants to play sports at Boys Town could do so. The funds raised make sure each child has the proper equipment, uniform and other necessities.
In 2012, the Spurs retired Bowen’s #12 jersey. Bowen’s passion to help the youth and young adults who are less fortunate lead him to established the Bruce Bowen Foundation. The foundation is committed to support and enhancing the lives of youth in underserved communities, focusing on promoting programs that build character and nurture self-respect, confidence, responsibility, and camaraderie. The Bruce Bowen Foundation awards scholarships to youth who need assistance in their quest to pursue higher education.
