Creighton Will Host First Round Game in NIT

CU Athletics The Creighton men's basketball team has accepted a bid to the National Invitation Tournament and will play Loyola (Chicago) on Tuesday, March 19 when the No. 2 seeded Bluejays host the No. 7 seeded Ramblers in Omaha, Neb. The game will tip at 8 p.m. Central and air on ESPNU.

Creighton enters the postseason with an 18-14 record after its third straight third-place finish in the BIG EAST Conference. The Bluejays are led by Honorable Mention All-BIG EAST performers Ty-Shon Alexander (16.2 ppg.) and Martin Krampelj (13.7 ppg., 7.0 rpg.), two of five men on the club averaging 9.9 points per game or more. The Bluejays are coached by Greg McDermott, who is 205-108 in his ninth year at Creighton, and 485-303 in his 25th season as a head coach. This year marks his second trip to the NIT, having also led Creighton to the 2016 quarterfinals.

Creighton is 7-11 in 11 previous NIT appearances, and won its first contest in each of its four most recent appearances. This year marks Creighton's 21st postseason bid in the last 22 seasons, which includes seven NIT bids in that span. The Bluejays have won at least one game in eight of its last 10 postseason appearances.

Creighton is 6-12 all-time against the Ramblers.

Joining Creighton in the NIT from the BIG EAST are Georgetown, Xavier, Providence and Butler. Villanova, Marquette, Seton Hall and St. John's will represent the BIG EAST in the NCAA Tournament.
