Eight of the Bluejays nine hits were of the extra base variety in Creighton's 6-2 win over Omaha on Tuesday, April 30.
The win moved the Bluejays to 26-10 on the season, while UNO fell to 25-14-1 overall.
The game got off to a fast start as junior Will Robertson launched a two-run home run in the top of the first, his ninth of the season. Junior Parker Upton was along for the ride, delivering a one-out double to right field.
The Bluejays added two more in the second as junior Jason Allbery doubled and sophomore Garrett Gilbert smoked a ball out to left field to make it 4-0. It was Gilbert's second of the season.
The Mavericks got on the board in the fourth inning with a solo home run to right off Creighton starter Dylan Tebrake.
Creighton pushed its lead back to four as Upton connected on a solo home run to right in the seventh, but UNO answered with a run in the bottom half via an RBI double from Thomas DeBonville.
A turning point in the contest came in eighth inning as UNO loaded the bases with one out, forcing Creighton head coach Ed Servais to go to his bullpen to bring in junior John Sakowski. The Omaha native got out of the jam with a strikeout, then forced a grounder to second to end the inning.
The Bluejays tacked on a run in the ninth, getting an RBI double from Upton.
Tebrake earned the win (1-1) limiting the Mavericks to one run on three hits and one walk in four innings. Sakowski picked up his second save of the year, getting the final five outs of the game. Maverick starter Tyler Daugherty took the loss (1-3), allowing four runs on four hits in 1.2 innings.
Upton led the Bluejay offense with three hits, two RBI and two runs scored. Robertson and Gilbert each also collected a pair of RBI in the victory.
Creighton returns to the diamond this weekend as the Bluejays face Georgetown in Bethesda, Maryland. Friday's first game is scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm (CT).
