Woman arrested in connection with son's death
A Lancaster County woman is in custody in connection with the December death of her infant son.
Ashley Bean, 35, of rural Waverly, is accused of Felony Child Abuse.
On December 17, at approximately 8:07 a.m., sheriff’s deputies, Waverly Rural Fire, and Lincoln Fire and Rescue responded to Bean’s home on a report of a three-week-old infant who was not breathing.
Deputies and medical personnel determined that the infant had no pulse and was not breathing. The infant, who had no obvious signs of injury, was transported by ambulance to a Lincoln hospital and later transferred to Omaha where he died hours later.
An autopsy indicated the child died of asphyxia due to combined suffocation and overlay.
Investigators say Bean had become highly intoxicated during the hours immediately preceding the 911 call, fell asleep with her infant son in the same bed and later awoke to find her son unresponsive.
Sheriff’s Department investigators believe Bean knowingly and intentionally placed her infant son in a situation that endangered his life.
