Omaha, Ne (WOWT) - A heavy snowfall and strong winds are causing for a messy and dangerous commute across the metro this morning.
As of 7 a.m., Interstate 80 is shut down in the eastbound lanes at 72nd Street, with traffic backing up all the way to the L Street exit.
Police are forcing drivers on I-80 eastbound to exit at 84th Street.
Omaha Police say via Twitter the accident involves serious injuries.
The combination of heavy snowfall and intense wind gusts are causing for a number of other issues for the morning commute.
At 5a.m., Omaha Police stopped responding to non-injury accidents in the area, asking drivers who were not injured to avoid calling 911.
Snow is expected to fall across the Omaha metro area until 2 p.m. today.
Authorities remind drivers to allow themselves extra time while traveling today, and increase following distances on the roads.
