OGALLALA, Neb. (WOWT) -- In anticipation of the blizzard expected to move into parts of western Nebraska today, the Nebraska Department of Transportation is closing westbound Interstate 80 at Ogallala.

NDOT said travelers should check the status of travel conditions throughout that area online at 511.Nebraska.gov; on the Nebraska 511 app; or by calling 5-1-1.

Travelers can also use the NDOT plow-tracker to observe road conditions in real-time; however, NDOT said in its release that road conditions are sometimes worse than they appear on camera.

"Motorists are reminded to make sure everyone in their vehicle wears a seat belt and children are in a car safety seat," the NDOT release states. "Do not use cruise control in wet or snowy weather and keep a full gas tank."

More safety information is available on the NDOT website.

Those needing help are advised to dial *55 to reach the Nebraska State Patrol; or call 9-1-1 for any emergency.
