BLAIR, Neb. (WOWT)-- A nightmare on what's supposed to be a couple's happiest day has become the reality for many brides expecting to get married at South Creek Wedding and Events.
Brides-to-be tell 6 News that South Creek owners, Kelly Jo and Nick Yaksich, haven't paid rent in five months and have left the business. A Facebook post from South Creek says that they will be passing along ownership to new owners who will continue to operate as a wedding and event business. The post didn't mention who those owners will be.
But some brides who haven't been able to get in contact with the owners, don't buy it.
"I tried emailing Kelly. I tried messaging through Facebook. She read it but didn't respond. Immediately my heart sank and I knew something wasn't right," said Morgan Merriman.
"Now i'm back to square one," said Megan MacAleese.
Some of the brides are getting married as soon as May. The thought of trying to find a new wedding venue this close to the "I do's" is upsetting.
Most of the brides have been without an answer for almost a week now. They haven't gotten their money back yet either. The number to the venue is also disconnected.
In an email, Nick Yaksich says that the brides have been communicated with and given contact information for the building owners, and that the building owners are the ones not responding.
“I thought I could trust them and just to find out was a complete shock. How do we do that again? How can I hand over another $1,200, is this going to happen again,” said bride Morgan Merriman.
