Police have authorized an internal investigation after video surfaced Sunday of an OPD officer shoving a woman in downtown Omaha.
Video uploaded to Twitter by @iDAHIRU2 shows a chaotic scene unfolding in the early hours of August 27. In the video, a woman is shoved by a female officer at the scene. The woman falls to the ground.
Witnesses told WOWT 6 News officers were allegedly trying to detain the woman's boyfriend shortly after bar close near 12th and Harney Street.
iDAHIRU2 said before he started recording the woman was telling people she would "fight all of them." He said police asked the woman multiple times to leave. The woman can be seen close to a crowd of officers in the video. iDAHIRU2 said the woman was interfering with the arrest and the female officer was trying to get the woman away from a fellow officer. According to the witness, the officer did not shove her hard.
iDAHIRU2 told WOWT 6 News he believes the officer's actions were justified.
Omaha Police told WOWT 6 News they have authorized an internal investigation. They added it's too early to make any conclusions based on a short snippet of the entire incident.
