U.S. farm bankruptcies jumped 20% in 2019 — the highest level since 2011, when the country was still recovering from the Great Recession.

This, despite $28 billion in aid extended to farmers in the past couple years.

According to the American Farm Bureau, 595 family farms declared Chapter 12 bankruptcy in 2019 as uncertainty in the markets spurred by trade wars and international agreements that were rewritten.
