OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT)-- Gunfire broke out Tuesday night at Evans Tower in Omaha. Initial reports indicated that two people died on the scene and an officer was hit in the leg.
According to police, they were called to Evans Tower for a domestic disturbance after 10 p.m. on News Years Eve.
Police say when the first two officers arrived on scene they knocked on the door of a residence on the fifth floor announcing they were police.
According to a release, the police then heard a female voice scream and say, "No Terry." Police heard no response and kicked in the door. A gunshot was then heard from inside the apartment.
Officers then called on the radio that shots were fired, according to the release.
Upon entering the police found 57-year-old Terry Hudson armed with a gun. Hudson had the gun raised. The police discharged their weapons and Hudson died on scene, the release states.
The woman was also found dead on the scene from a gunshot wound.
One officer was hit in the leg. He is expected to be okay.
Detectives interviewed the initial 911 callers who reported seeing Hudson with a gun shortly before calling the police. They described a verbal altercation that became physical and later fatal when the witness described seeing Hudson pull the gun out from underneath furniture.
Another witness described seeing Hudson place the female in a chokehold in the hallway, according to the release.
All involved officers were wearing body-worn cameras.
