LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Authorities have arrested three individuals believed to be responsible for the murder of a Lincoln woman during a home invasion last month.
The Lincoln Police Department said in a release that with the help of multiple law enforcement agencies across the country, three arrests have been made in the July 31st homicide of 36-year-old Jessica Brandon.
On Friday, 25-year-old Dante D. Williams was arrested in Omaha, Nebraska, while 26-year-old Damon D. Williams Jr. and 25-year-old Tawhyne M. Patterson were arrested in Texas. All are currently booked on murder charges. Patterson and Williams Jr. are lodged in Texas awaiting extradition.
LPD said the investigation into Brandon’s homicide and the motive leading up to the shooting is ongoing, and additional arrests are possible.
Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister briefed the media Monday morning regarding the arrests and other details about the crime.
Bliemeister said LPD worked with the Omaha Police Department and the Metro Fugitive Task Force to apprehend Dante Williams in Omaha on Friday morning around 8:55 a.m., near 35th and Seward Street.
He added that at the same time, authorities in Killeen, Texas were working with LPD to arrest Williams Jr. and Patterson. Authorities in Texas have also served a search warrant at the location Patterson and Williams Jr. were staying.
In addition, the Chief of Police reveled there was an additional break-in attempt at the home the day before Brandon was murdered.
He said surveillance footage captured four people attempting to get into the home on July 30, but were unsuccessful. The following night, July 31, the three arrested suspects returned and gained entry to the home.
It has not been determined who pulled the trigger during the murder, police said.
On July 31, LPD said the suspects forced their way into a home in the 1900 Block of Fairfield Street and killed Brandon.
Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister said previously the crime was not a random act.
LPD responded to reports of gunshots in the 1900 Block of Fairfield Street in north Lincoln around 3:45 a.m. the night of murder.
When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered a woman had been shot, and family members were performing life-saving measures on the victim.
LPD said four children and three adults were in the home at the time of the shooting, including the victim. One of the adults was Brandon’s significant other, Michael Robertson.
According to an affidavit, Lincoln Police say Robertson hid drugs inside a shed after Brandon was shot and before authorities got on scene.
The affidavit says Robertson was observed on video cameras carrying a cooler and duffel bag into a shed in the back yard before Lincoln Police and Lincoln Fire and Rescue arrived at the home.
Police later found 2.89 pounds of marijuana, marijuana edibles with high levels of THC concentrate and $85,800 in the cooler and duffel bag.
The surveillance did not capture the killing.
NDCS records show both Williams and Patterson have a criminal record. in 2008 Williams served almost three years for attempted robbery. He then went back to prison for another three years for possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person.
Patterson also served time for attempted robbery. He was sentenced to serve 6-12 years in 2013. Patterson was released after two years. Patterson was also charged a few months before Brandon's murder for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
