OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) -- We're in the middle of a warmup and it's just about time to get that air conditioner going but there are some who will turn the A/C on and still be without cool air.
All of a sudden, it’s summer with May temperatures feeling more like July.
Six News Meteorologist Rusty Lord said, “We should be in the 73-to-75 degree range this time of year. I think tomorrow we're going to go mid-90s albeit it’s for a day but I think it will be a shock to the system with 94, 95 for an afternoon high."
The warm temperatures are drawing people outside to enjoy the weather. It's also making them think about turning on the air conditioner.
There are some people who turn on their air conditioners and they don't work. Neal Herring, with Aksarben Heating and Air, said the number of calls coming in requesting service has doubled over the past few days.
“People put it off until the last minute so yesterday, first time we really had some heat, a lot of humidity, that's going to wake people up and when that happens everybody's calling and wanting service now."
There are some things you can check to make sure your air conditioner is ready for the summer. Check your filters. They might need to be changed for good air flow and then make sure to clean around you're A/C unit.
“Is it clogged up with cottonwood seeds and stuff like that? Grass clippings? People have been mowing their lawns."
If you can’t clean your air conditioner yourself that's the time to call in a pro, "and you really need somebody to clean that out so you get good air flow. If you don't get good air flow it’s going to be rough on your compressor and that could kill your air conditioner."
Experts tell us there are many people who don't service their air conditioning units until they have a problem.
