Several families displaced following afternoon fire

The Omaha Fire Department responded to a multi-family house fire on South 22nd St. and N St. Sunday afternoon.

Fire rescue said they got mixed reports from 911 callers and residents. They were initially told there were people trapped inside the home, but discovered everyone was out of the building upon arrival.

No one was injured during the fire. One person was treated because they use an oxygen tank regularly.

Officials said they believe the fire originated in the basement. The damage is do the basement and the first floor.

The home has 16 units and 14 residents were home at the time of the fire. A few residents said they lost all of their belongings in the fire.

The American Red Cross was on-hand providing food and water to the residents. They are not allowed to return to their units for the time being.
