OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Absolutely beautiful weather across the area this afternoon and evening. Mostly sunny skies and light winds have prevailed today, with temperatures climbing into the upper 70s and low 80s across most of the area. We will slowly cool back into the low 70s by 10pm. A few showers are possible late tonight, mainly well to the west of the metro. The bulk of the area will stay dry. Lows tonight should dip into the mid to upper 50s.
We could see a few clouds in the morning, but any rain shower activity should stay to our south and west. Winds should be light in the morning, picking up to 10 to 15mph in the afternoon. Temperatures will climb into the 70s by midday, topping out in the low 80s once again around the metro. The mild and quiet weather will continue overnight with lows in the 60s.
Even warmer weather is expected on Thursday. After a few morning clouds, we'll see plenty of sunshine and temperatures quickly warming. We should be in the mid 70s by the lunch hour, with highs in the low 90s expected around the metro! Highs on Friday should climb to around 90 once again with dry weather. A stormier weather pattern is expected to arrive beginning late Friday night. Severe storms are possible Friday evening, mainly across central Nebraska. Those storms will try to work our way late Friday night, but will likely weaken, or even fall apart before they reach the metro area.
The better chance for storms, and perhaps severe weather appears to be on Saturday. A storm system will be moving into eastern Nebraska that will interact with the warm and humid air in place, triggering thunderstorms by the afternoon. Some of those storms could be strong to severe, so monitor further forecast updates as we go through the rest of the week. Storms should move out Saturday night, with lingering showers or possibly an isolated storm on Sunday. Conditions will be cooler on Sunday as well. The active pattern will continue next week, with additional chances for showers and storms Monday and Tuesday.
