More Omaha-metro schools announce closures

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) -- Following the lead of several other area district announcements made on Thursday, more Omaha-metro schools and districts said Friday have opted to close and cancel activities in coming days in the interest of halting the spread of coronavirus.

Westside School District said in a news release that they will close schools March 14-20.

No classes, practices, travel, meetings or any other events will be held. The decision when classes will resume will be made late next week, according to their news release.

The Archdiocese of Omaha Catholic Schools said in an announcement that all six its schools will be closed next week. School principals will communicate with families today about additional details, the statement reads.

Ralston Public Schools announced Friday morning they will be closed beginning Saturday through March 21 as a precaution while the coronavirus continues to spread in the area.

All buildings, activities, athletics and the Lil' and Tiny Rams program will not be open or held, the district's statement reads.

"Updates will be provided to families each week on Thursdays to provide you with the latest information for the following week," the district explained.
