Omaha police to enforce traffic laws for scooters

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) -- You can’t shake the rules of the road by dropping a couple of wheels. Omaha Police will begin enforcing traffic laws on those new scooters that have come to town.

This weekend, officers will give warning citations to riders on the sidewalk. But starting Monday, riders on the sidewalk will be ticketed.

Additionally, operators can receive a citation for traffic violations such as running red lights or stop signs, driving on the wrong side of the street, and other Rules of the Road violations.

Scooters also cannot be driven along, upon, or across any curb; and drivers are not allowed to travel or race on any public property, sidewalk, or public place in the city.
