Medical episode led to three-car crash on Dodge Street near 40th, police say
Omaha Police said a driver experiencing a medical issue is believed to have caused the three-car crash that closed down a section of Dodge Street on Tuesday morning.
Dodge Street was closed off between 38th and 41st in both directions until 10:30 a.m. as OPD investigated the wreck, a police update states.
Authorities told 6 News that four people were rushed to the hospital, and warned drivers to expect delays in the area.
An OPD report states that at 8:13 a.m. Tuesday, officers were dispatched to a personal injury crash at 40th and Dodge involving three vehicles.
Police say a 2016 Lexus SUV was eastbound from the red light at 42nd and Dodge streets when it accelerated and rear-ended an eastbound 2008 Jeep Liberty before striking a northbound 2009 Hyundai Accent sedan in the intersection of 40th and Dodge.
Omaha Fire Medics transported the Lexus driver to Nebraska Medicine with life-saving measures in progress, the report states.
The Lexus driver is believed to have had a medical situation prior to the crash and is in critical condition at this time, according to the police report.
The Hyundai driver was cited for driving during suspension and for driving on bald tires, police said.
The two juveniles in the Hyundai and the Jeep driver were restrained and were not injured in the crash.
