OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A police pursuit lasting roughly 40 minutes ended with a man and a woman being arrested.
It all began at the Target near 120th and L when officers were tipped off that a man and woman, both in their 20's, who were suspected of shoplifting were going to commit another crime.
According to Lt. Amy Oetter, police believed the pair had been committing other shoplifting crimes to fuel bigger crimes. They believed the man would wait in the car while the woman would enter the stores and steal things.
Police found the suspect vehicle at the Target and began a pursuit at 5:15 p.m. because they believed the pair was the couple involved in the other crimes and that the man might have a violent weapons charge.
ABLE 1 located the car at 120th and Blondo. Police used stop sticks to end the pursuit, with speeds reaching 65 miles per hour.
The suspect vehicle crashed at 120th and Maple at 5:56 p.m. The man fled on foot across the road and the woman fled into a ditch.
Both were apprehended. There were no injuries during the incident and no weapons were found on the suspects.
Their identities are not being released at this time.
Lt. Oetter said it was a good end to the chase because there was little traffic, causing less danger to other drivers, and because officers were able to arrest two people who they believe are known criminals.
