LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - Organizers delivered a petition of more than 135,000 signatures to the Secretary of State's office on Thursday in hopes of putting a measure to expand Medicaid on the ballot this fall.
To get a measure on the ballot, organizers have to get at least seven percent of Nebraska's registered voters to sign a petition. The petition delivered Thursday exceeded that number.
The petition should be processed with two weeks and delivered to county election officials. Once there, each petition signature will be verified.
From there, county election officials will have 40 days to compete that verification process while the Attorney General's office begins drafting the ballot measure.
