COLUMBUS, Neb. -- A 1-year-old child was found dead in a vehicle in Columbus, Nebraska Wednesday night.
According to a release by the Columbus Police Department, officers were called to investigate an unattended death shortly before 6 p.m.
A 37-year-old woman had reportedly left the child in her vehicle in the parking lot of her workplace.
Columbus Police Capt. Todd Thalken said the child was in the vehicle from about 8 a.m. to 5:40 p.m. Thalken said the boy's death was an accident, noting the woman had a daily routine that was disrupted Wednesday.
Police have not released the name of the child or his mother.
The National Weather Service says the high temperature in Columbus on Wednesday was 86 degrees.
