GRUNDY COUNTY, Iowa (CNN) -- Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, on Tuesday demanded an apology from the media and Republicans after he made comments that humanity would not exist if not for rape or incest.

King said he was misquoted and defended himself over the weekend at town hall meetings, including one on Saturday that was attended by just one person.

CNN spoke with student Jessica Birch about why she was at the event.

"Student loan debt," she said.
