One of world's tiniest babies back home after 307 days in hospital
He came into this world weighing 14.99 ounces. He was one of the tiniest babies ever born. After 307 days in the hospital, Nathan Teply is finally home.
Eric Teply, Nathan's father said, "His first picture, I have my pinky next to his hand. And my nail of my pinky is as big as his hand. It's amazing!"
Nathan weighed just 14.99 ounces. His skin was nearly translucent.
"From the minute I saw his first ultrasound I knew he was going to be a fighter. He had his hands up to his face in the ultrasound like he was fighting, he had his fists up," said Mary Teply, Nathan's mom.
Meet Nathan today.
"Say Hi!" said Mary.
After 307 days in the hospital, he is out!
"And he's doing amazing and We're home!" said Mary.
Nathan now weighs in at 15 pounds, 12 ounces. He has lovable chubby cheeks to prove it. His journey home was more than Nathan's family ever expected.
"We had some health issues come up with our heart and our lungs." said Mary.
Nathan spent the first 10 months of his life in the hospital. It didn't stop his parents from creating special memories.
"We got his newborn pictures done and he was Finding Nemo. We got to go outside. Our first stroller ride..." said Mary.
There are still reminders all over Nathan's nursery about his continuing fight.
A long list of medications and machines keep Nathan thriving.
"The traech here just allows us to help our lungs grow since he was so tiny and so sick," Mary said.
They are hopeful within a year Nathan can get off every machine.
Until then, they are cherishing their life as first time parents.
"It's been amazing. Oh. After 10 months it's so good to finally be home," Mary said.
Nathan got to celebrate his first Halloween. A very fitting costume...he was Superman.
