Omaha surgeons tend to assault victim who had pliers lodged in skull
A Pierce County assault has put the victim in an Omaha hospital for treatment of a serious head injury and landed the alleged assailant in jail on $500,000 bond.
Breygen Silva-Aguilar, 35, is in custody after allegedly stabbing a fellow employee in the head with a pair of pliers. One handle of the tool lodged in the victim's head, piercing his skull and entering his brain.
According to court documents, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department was called to the scene of an assault at a business near Plainview just before 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Documents say the victim was initially taken to the Plainview Hospital.
A deputy located the victim in the emergency room. One handle of a large, rusty pair of pliers had torn through the man's ball cap and was lodged in the back, left side of his head.
Measurements indicated the pliers had penetrated 1.75 inches into the victim’s skull. He was transported by medical helicopter to Omaha for emergency surgery.
Nebraska State Patrol troopers arrested Silva-Aguilar for First Degree Felony Assault. Documents say Silva-Aguilar admitted to troopers that there was an argument earlier in the day and said he threw the pliers at the victim.
Authorities say Silva-Aguilar is in the country illegally from Guatemala. He's jailed in Pierce County.
