Omaha massage therapist receives prison time for sexual assault

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Melvin Buffington, an Omaha massage therapist convicted of attempted sexual assault, will spend the next 20 to 24 years in prison.

Judge Russell Derr handed down the sentence on Tuesday.

According to the court, Buffington will serve 10 to 12 years for each of two counts of attempted first-degree sexual assault convictions with credit for 446 days of time served.

He will also have to register as a sex offender.

The court listing shows 21 misdemeanor counts of sexual assault were dropped in a plea deal.

Buffington was arrested in February of 2018 after he allegedly assaulted two customers at Oasis Massage & Spa.

More victims came forward after the initial arrest, adding to the charges.

The assaults reportedly happened between July of 2017 and February of 2018.

Victims kept coming forward through June of 2018.
