OPS: Omaha North High School threats are a hoax
Omaha Public Schools spokesperson Monique Farmer tells 6 News, social media posts circulated online Tuesday detailing threats to students are believed to be a hoax.
Farmer said the district sent an email out to parents late Tuesday after social media posts showed a string of text messages which threatened violence at a school.
"We take threats like this very seriously and we have alerted the Omaha Police Department," the email stated. "OPD has shared with us that their preliminary investigation leads them to believe this is a hoax."
District officials said the text messages are associated with an out-of-state email address and several other school districts have received similar social media threats.
OPS will have additional security Wednesday as a precaution.
