Northwest Omaha homicide update: Man who shot girlfriend, self, has died

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office confirmed Wednesday night that the man suspected of shooting his girlfriend and himself has died as a result of his gunshot injury.

Ashley N. Stephens, 28, was found dead of an apparent gunshot wound in a home near 134th and Meridith avenues just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, according to a release from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. Deputies also found Jonathon S. Hartley, 61, the homeowner, in the residence with an apparent gunshot wound.
A firearm was found near Hartley, the release states.
He was transported Tuesday to Nebraska Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Stephens and Hartley were believed to be in a domestic relationship, the release states. No one else was found inside the home Tuesday.
The case is being investigated as a homicide and attempted suicide.
