North Omaha homeowner begins building with help of Habitat for Humanity
It's a big day for north Omaha homeowner Rozilind Roby.
Wednesday volunteers with TD Ameritrade and Habitat for Humanity toasted to their newest build, what will one day be Roby's brand new home.
“It’s gonna be my own, my very own. To have your very own something is a very much upgrade,” Roby said.
Over the next 16 weeks, Roby will put in 250 hours of measuring, hammering and heavy lifting.
Thankfully, she's got help from about 400 volunteers with TD Ameritrade.
“I like to think I’m pretty handy, even though we're IT folks we're pretty handy and it's just a great, great cause,” TD Ameritrade employee Troy Waller said. “It's a great family and we're always really excited to get out there and see someone’s dreams come true of home ownership.”
Their heart, combined with Roby's drive earns her the opportunity to purchase the Kountze Park home at a zero percent interest rate.
It's something her three kids can't stop talking about.
“They're very excited they keep telling everyone you're not gonna be in my room and I'm gonna kick you out of my room, so yes they're too excited about it,” Roby said.
So on day one they're working hard -- knocking nails, breaking boards and cracking hammers.
But in the end she'll have her own 5 bedroom home, which if you're counting, leaves her an extra room for her “lady cave”.
